(Reuters) – Ronnie O’Sullivan secured his eighth Masters title with a stunning 10-7 triumph over Ali Carter at Alexandra Palace on Sunday. The world number one, also known as “The Rocket,” found himself trailing 6-3 in the evening session before mounting a comeback and winning six of the next seven frames to clinch the victory.
O’Sullivan’s win earned him the first prize of 250,000 pounds ($318,675), while Carter took home 100,000 pounds. The 48-year-old added a 23rd Triple Crown title to his collection, setting a new record as the oldest champion and also the youngest, having won his first Masters title at the age of 19 in 1995.
In December, O’Sullivan claimed his eighth UK Championship, but had never previously won consecutive Triple Crown events in the same season. His latest victory means he now has the chance to match the likes of Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, and Mark Williams by winning all three titles in the same campaign at the world championships later this year.($1 = 0.7845 pounds)
