(Reuters) – Brisbane Roar has just announced the departure of Ross Aloisi from his position as head coach on Sunday. The club stated that the former midfielder has left to pursue an “overseas opportunity”.
Aloisi was brought on board by Brisbane in May and guided the team to the final of the Australia Cup, where they ultimately suffered a 3-1 defeat to Sydney FC in October.
He also managed a strong start to the new A-League campaign and departs with Brisbane in fifth place in the 12-team competition, trailing the leaders Wellington Phoenix by six points.
“Leaving Brisbane Roar has been a very difficult decision for me,” Aloisi said in a statement. “I firmly believe in the club’s progress and direction.
“However, the opportunity presented to me overseas aligns closely with my personal journey and coaching goals. It’s a path I feel I must take at this stage in my career.”
Luciano Trani, who had previously served as Aloisi’s assistant, has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season as Brisbane prepares to face Melbourne City on Thursday.
