LONDON (Reuters) – Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta commended his team’s mental toughness following a strong rebound from their recent defeat to Porto, as they dominated Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Gunners netted four goals in total, with two coming in each half, securing a convincing 4-1 win at home. This victory marked their sixth consecutive league win, during which they have amassed an impressive goal difference of 25-3.
This performance has kept the pressure on the league leaders, Liverpool and Manchester City.
“I believe we delivered an outstanding performance, great credit to the players for putting on a show with just a short turnaround time to prepare for the game,” Arteta stated to the press.
“The way we carried out our game plan, with high intensity, commitment, determination, aggression, and fluidity in our attacking play was exceptional.”
“The players displayed a lot of courage and it paid off.”
Arteta expressed satisfaction with his team’s response, noting, “We demonstrated our desire to succeed… I felt the readiness of the squad when we were in Porto, ready for the challenge.”
“In sports, setbacks happen for a reason, and we must learn from them. We need to analyze why it occurred and strive to improve.”
Despite the impressive performance, Arteta remained grounded, saying, “We had the potential to score even more today. We must continue to progress, focusing on areas where we can enhance our performance.”
