(Reuters) – Arsenal made the announcement on Thursday that they have secured the permanent signing of United States international defender Emily Fox for the Women’s Super League (WSL) club.
At 25 years old, Fox has accumulated 39 appearances for the U.S. national team and played in all four of their matches at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. She initially joined North Carolina Courage in January 2023 and played in 19 games for the club.
Expressing her excitement, Fox said, “It feels amazing to have signed here. When I think of Arsenal, I think of excellence, I think of a global organization, I think of family. I think of pushing the standards of football and especially in the women’s game.”
Currently, Arsenal holds the third spot in the WSL standings, trailing behind leaders Chelsea by three points. Their upcoming league game on Jan. 20 will be against Everton at their home ground.
“Emily has shown impressive development over recent seasons and her strengths in both phases will make her an important addition to our squad,” remarked Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall.
It was also announced that Fox will be donning the number two jersey for Arsenal.
