(Reuters) – According to Reuters, Barcelona coach Jonatan Giraldez will be departing from the club at the end of the Liga F season, as announced by the Spanish champions on Monday.
Giraldez, who took over as coach in 2021, has achieved substantial success during his tenure, winning the Liga F title twice and losing only one out of 72 league games while leading the team.
Under his guidance, Barcelona also secured the Women’s Champions League title in 2023, along with winning the Copa de la Reina and two Spanish Super Cups, solidifying their position as one of Europe’s top teams.
In a statement to reporters on Monday, Giraldez stated, “I informed the club that I don’t intend to renew my contract. I want to leave them enough time to sort things out and find the best possible future. Last Friday I told the players and staff about the situation. I wanted them to know the reasons for my decision.”
Recent reports have linked Giraldez with a potential move to the United States’ National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Regarding these speculations, Giraldez commented, “I can only say it’s outside of Europe. I would not want to compete against Barca.”
At present, Barcelona currently lead the Liga F standings with 36 points after 12 games, placing them nine points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid.
