Max Eberl, set to take over as Bayern Munich’s head of sport on March 1, remains optimistic about the team’s chances this season despite an eight-point deficit in the Bundesliga. Eberl, a former Bayern player, spent 15 years with the club before serving as sports director at Borussia Moenchengladbach for 14 years and briefly at RB Leipzig in 2022.
Leipzig dismissed him in September amid rumors linking him to Bayern, but Eberl expressed his excitement about returning to his former club after three decades. “The goal is to make the most of the season in these three months. Being eight points behind in the league is a challenge, but not insurmountable,” he said during a press conference in Munich.
While Bayern trails Bayer Leverkusen in the league and suffered a 1-0 loss to Lazio in the Champions League, Eberl believes that winning a title is still within reach. “We are on the back foot in both competitions, but it’s not impossible to turn things around. We must focus on not giving away any more points in the next few months,” he emphasized.
Following a three-game losing streak, Bayern secured a 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig last week, giving Eberl confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back. “I have a good feeling. We will do everything to achieve the seemingly impossible,” he stated.
Upon assuming his new role, Eberl plans to collaborate with club management in identifying a successor for current coach Thomas Tuchel, who will depart at the end of the season. Tuchel’s tenure has been marked by uncertainty, with Bayern’s streak of 12 consecutive league titles at risk under his leadership.
“There is a lot of speculation about our next coach, but we must approach this decision methodically. Finding the right fit for Bayern, both in terms of coaching and player personnel, is crucial for our future success,” Eberl explained.
As Eberl prepares to embark on this new chapter with Bayern, he remains focused on the team’s immediate objectives while also planning for the long-term sustainability of the club. “Our priority is to secure the right coach for Bayern, one who can lead us to further success in the seasons to come,” he affirmed.
Despite the challenges ahead, Eberl’s return to Bayern comes with a sense of nostalgia and hope for a brighter future. His experience in the Bundesliga and dedication to the club’s values position him as a key figure in shaping Bayern’s path forward, both on and off the pitch.
With Eberl at the helm, Bayern Munich looks to defy the odds and reclaim their dominance in German football, aspiring to add more silverware to their storied history. The journey ahead may be arduous, but Eberl’s confidence and determination signal a promising start to a new era at Bayern.
As the season unfolds and challenges arise, Eberl’s leadership and strategic vision will be instrumental in guiding Bayern towards their goals, instilling a sense of belief and unity within the team and the fanbase. The road to success may be long and fraught with obstacles, but with Eberl leading the way, Bayern Munich is poised for a resurgence in the Bundesliga and beyond.
