(Reuters) – Besiktas have named former Portugal coach Fernando Santos as their new manager, the Turkish Super Lig club revealed on Sunday.
The 69-year-old Portuguese recently managed Poland but was removed from his position as they struggled to qualify for Euro 2024.
Santos previously led Portugal but left his role after losing to Morocco in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals. He had previously guided them to victory in Euro 2016.
Santos, who has also managed at Porto, Sporting, Benfica and Greece, will take over from Riza Calimbay at Besiktas.
Besiktas currently sit sixth in the league with 29 points from 18 matches and are set to visit fifth-placed Rizespor on Tuesday.
