LONDON (Reuters) – West Ham United ended their six-match winless streak in the Premier League with a 4-2 victory over Brentford on Monday, thanks to a hat-trick from Jarrod Bowen. This win marked West Ham’s first victory of 2024 and lifted them to eighth place in the league standings with 39 points, level with seventh-placed Brighton.

David Moyes, the manager of West Ham, expressed his relief at the much-needed win, stating, “Our form in six weeks has been poor. It’s good to score four goals and get a win at home.” He also highlighted the team’s positioning in the league, noting their improvement from past seasons where they were battling to avoid relegation.

Bowen opened the scoring just five minutes into the game with a powerful low shot after receiving a pass from Emerson. He quickly added a second goal with a close-range half-volley. Brentford’s Neal Maupay responded with a goal in the 13th minute, but Bowen completed his first senior hat-trick with a header in the 63rd minute.

Emerson extended West Ham’s lead with a stunning long-range strike in the 69th minute, making it 4-1 in favor of the hosts. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa managed to score a consolation goal late in the game, but it was not enough to stop their fifth defeat in the last six matches.

Bowen, who had been waiting for years to achieve a hat-trick, expressed his joy at accomplishing this feat. He credited the team’s performance to the support of the home fans, stating, “We knew tonight we could create a home atmosphere with the fans and if we started well they’d respond to it.”

West Ham’s next match will be against Everton, while Brentford will host Chelsea. Despite their recent struggles, Moyes remains optimistic about West Ham’s chances in the league and is determined to continue challenging the teams with more resources and experience.

With this win, West Ham has shown their resilience and capability to compete in the Premier League. Their performance against Brentford has provided a much-needed confidence boost for the team as they look to finish the season on a high note.
