(Reuters) – The south coast club Brighton & Hove Albion has announced the signing of Valentin Barco, a versatile Argentina U-23 international, from Boca Juniors on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
Last year, the 19-year-old featured in 18 Primera Division matches for Boca and also played nine times in their Copa Libertadores campaign, including the final.
Brighton technical director David Weir stated, “He has played predominantly on the left side, serving as a full-back, wing-back, or winger, but has also demonstrated his versatility with Boca by playing across the midfield.”
Barco is currently representing Argentina at the South American Olympic qualifiers in Venezuela, which will conclude on Feb. 11.
Brighton currently holds the eighth position in the Premier League with 31 points from 20 matches and is set to host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
