According to officials, Vincent Aboubakar, the captain of Cameroon, sustained an injury during training and may be unable to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations finals as a result. On Saturday, he had scans on his hamstring following a training session on Friday, and a decision about his participation will be made once the results are reviewed.
Aboubakar is one of four players in Cameroon’s squad for the tournament in the Ivory Coast who was also on the winning team in 2017 when the Indomitable Lions secured the trophy in Gabon. The 31-year-old, with 97 caps, has represented Cameroon in three World Cup finals and three previous Cup of Nations tournaments.
Cameroon still has the option to replace Aboubakar in their squad before their first game in Group C against Guinea in Yamoussoukro on Monday. (Reporting by Mark Gleeson; Editing by Hugh Lawson)
