In a Women’s Super League match, Chelsea defeated West Ham United 2-0 with goals from Agnes Beever-Jones and Erin Cuthbert, reclaiming the top spot on the table. Manchester City had briefly taken the lead with a 3-1 victory over Manchester United, but Chelsea’s early goal propelled them to the top on goal difference.
It was a controversial match as West Ham’s Honoka Hayashi had a goal disallowed for offside, but Chelsea managed to secure the win with Cuthbert’s late strike in the 88th minute. Meanwhile, Leicester City faced off against Brighton & Hove Albion in a thrilling encounter that ended with the Seagulls grabbing a 3-2 victory courtesy of Elisabeth Terland’s 85th-minute goal.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Bethany England scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over bottom side Bristol City, becoming only the second player after Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema to reach 70 goals in the WSL. Spurs currently sit in sixth place with 25 points, while Bristol City continues to struggle with only six points to their name.
The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool ended in a goalless draw, leaving Liverpool in fourth place with 29 points, just one point ahead of Manchester United. Arsenal, who are in third place with 34 points, are set to face Aston Villa in the late Sunday game.
