    Soccer-Chelsea rout Leicester to go top of Women's Super League

    In a match on Sunday, Nathalie Bjorn, Mayra Ramirez, and Catarina Macario scored their first Women’s Super League goals for Chelsea, helping the team secure a 4-0 victory over Leicester City. This win propelled Chelsea back to the top of the table, edging past Manchester City on goal difference.

    Bjorn, a Swedish defender who recently joined Chelsea from Everton, opened the scoring in the 38th minute after Leicester failed to clear a corner. She managed to hook a shot past the goalkeeper, making it 1-0 for Chelsea. Ramirez, also a new arrival in January, scored the second goal with a fantastic solo effort in the 44th minute.

    Winger Johanna Rytting Kaneryd extended Chelsea’s lead with a third goal, and Catarina Macario, the Brazil-born USA international, scored on her debut coming off the bench. Chelsea’s three-goal cushion over Manchester City secured their position at the top of the table with 37 points.

    In another match on Sunday, Arsenal defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium. Alessia Russo’s second-half strike ensured Arsenal’s title challenge remained strong, with the team trailing the top two by three points.

    Arsenal faces tough matchups against Chelsea and Manchester City in the coming games, presenting an opportunity for them to influence their championship destiny as the title race intensifies.

    In an entertaining game between Bristol City and Brighton & Hove Albion, Bristol City made a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down to briefly trail 4-3. However, their defensive vulnerabilities led to a 7-3 loss. With seven games left, Bristol now trails West Ham United by six points, after West Ham drew 1-1 at home with Manchester United, courtesy of a late goal from Viviane Asseyi.

    Meanwhile, Aston Villa suffered a 4-1 defeat at home against Liverpool, who delivered a stellar away performance. This victory propelled Liverpool to fifth place in the standings, on par with fourth-placed Manchester United.

    The Women’s Super League continues to deliver exciting matches, with the title race heating up as the top teams aim to secure their positions. Chelsea’s impressive performance against Leicester City solidified their lead at the top of the table, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the season.
