(Reuters) – Rangers have announced the appointment of Philippe Clement, a Belgian coach, as their new manager to replace Michael Beale. The Scottish Premiership club made the announcement on Sunday.
This decision comes after Beale was dismissed earlier this month, as Rangers found themselves seven points behind their rivals Celtic, who currently lead the Premiership. Rangers suffered three defeats in their first eight matches, which prompted the managerial change.
In addition to their poor domestic form, Rangers were dealt a heavy blow in the Champions League playoff, where they were defeated 7-3 on aggregate by PSV Eindhoven. As a result, they have been relegated to Europe’s second-tier competition, the Europa League.
Excited about this new opportunity, Philippe Clement, who has previously coached AS Monaco and Club Brugge, expressed his eagerness to achieve success at Rangers in various competitions this season and beyond. He made this statement through a press release.
On October 21, Rangers will have their next match against Hibernian, which will be their first under Clement’s leadership.
