(Reuters) – Eric Dier’s loan move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich has become permanent after he fulfilled the required number of appearances stipulated in his contract, the German Bundesliga club announced on Saturday.
The 30-year-old England midfielder initially joined Bayern on loan in January until the end of the season after spending ten years with Spurs, reuniting with former teammate Harry Kane.
Bayern revealed that Dier’s contract has now been extended until June 2025. Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, praised the 30-year-old England international for providing “valuable support” in the team’s defense.
Dier has featured in seven matches for Bayern in the Bundesliga, with five of those being starts.
“I’m content in Munich. With my future now secured, I can concentrate on performing well for the club and assisting in winning games and competitions, despite facing challenges during this period,” Dier commented.
Despite having clinched the Bundesliga title 11 consecutive times, Bayern currently sit in second place in the standings this season, trailing unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen by seven points with a game in hand.
Bayern is scheduled to face Lazio on Tuesday in the Champions League last 16, trailing 1-0 from the first leg.
