(Reuters) – Fenerbahce’s players decided to leave the pitch just one minute into the Turkish Super Cup match against Galatasaray on Sunday, resulting in the game being abandoned and ultimately giving up the trophy.
The team from Fenerbahce, who were represented by their Under-19 squad, stepped away from the match in Sanliurfa shortly after Galatasaray’s Mauro Icardi, the Argentine striker, scored a goal.
This action by Fenerbahce seemed to be a response to a previous incident in March when the team had contemplated pulling out of the league following an attack by Trabzonspor fans on their players during a different game.
