(Reuters) – Fenerbahce is facing a crucial decision as they prepare to vote on whether to follow through with their threat of pulling out of the Super Lig. This decision will have a significant impact on the future of the Turkish top-flight club.
Back in March, Fenerbahce made headlines when they announced that they were contemplating withdrawing from the league. This decision came in response to an incident where their players were attacked by Trabzonspor fans during a match.
The situation escalated when enraged Trabzonspor supporters invaded the pitch and got into altercations with both security forces and Fenerbahce players following a 3-2 defeat. This incident was just one of many that have plagued the Turkish league throughout the season.
Fenerbahce is now gearing up for an Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, where members will have the opportunity to vote on the motion to remove the club from the league. The outcome of this vote will determine the club’s future in Turkish football.
Despite the off-field controversies, Fenerbahce has managed to maintain a strong performance on the field. The team, who clinched their 19th league title in 2014, currently sits in second place in the standings after 30 games, trailing Galatasaray by just two points. Their next fixture is set to take place on Wednesday against Adana Demirspor.
