Manchester United secured a much-needed 2-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League, thanks to penalties converted by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. The win comes after a series of disappointing results and reignites their hopes of finishing in the top four of the league.
Despite the win, United remains in sixth place in the league table with 47 points, still trailing behind fourth-placed Aston Villa who have 55 points. Tottenham in fifth place have 50 points and two games in hand. Everton, managed by Sean Dyche, are currently in 16th place with 25 points, five points above the relegation zone.
Both penalties were awarded for fouls on Alejandro Garnacho and were against the run of play, as Everton had dominated possession for large parts of the game. United’s midfield struggled to retain possession and were repeatedly giving the ball away to their opponents.
The first penalty was converted by Fernandes in the 12th minute, while the second was confidently taken by Rashford in the 36th minute. The win will be a morale boost for United as they look to finish the season strongly and secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
