Soccer-Fifth trophy in a remarkable year an "outstanding achievement" for Manchester City

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) – Manchester City secured their fifth trophy in 2023, defeating Fluminense 4-0 in the Club World Cup final. In doing so, they became the first English club to hold the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup crowns simultaneously. Manager Pep Guardiola described the achievement as “outstanding”.

Guardiola expressed his pride in the club’s accomplishments, stating, “To win this trophy is to be the best team in the world. As a manager it is what I am most proud of, that we are always there.”

Julian Alvarez scored twice and City dominated the match against Fluminense, sealing their victory and further solidifying their position at the top.

City’s celebrations were somewhat marred by a serious knee injury to Rodri, but they nonetheless jubilantly embraced their win on the pitch.

Following their Champions League victory earlier in the year, City added the Super Cup and Club World Cup to their impressive season, with Guardiola emphasizing the unique mentality of the team and the club’s fans.

Guardiola has now achieved the Club World Cup victory with three different teams, a remarkable feat that further cements his status as a top manager.

The club has already made plans to commemorate their latest triumph, with the players set to wear a “World Champions 2023” badge and a banner raised at the Etihad Stadium.

City captain Kyle Walker highlighted the team’s consistent success and expressed their confidence as they turn their focus back to the Premier League, where they aim to maintain their lead.

However, City will have to navigate challenges in the league, including a serious injury to Rodri and the absence of Erling Haaland, the league’s leading scorer, due to a persistent foot injury.

As they regroup and refocus on their Premier League campaign, the club aims to maintain their exceptional performance and solidify their position as the best team in the world.
