(Reuters) – Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi participated in the recovery effort in Campi Bisenzio by shovelling mud in the streets on Monday. This follows the devastating flooding that occurred in the central Italian region of Tuscany. Torrential rain caused rivers to burst their banks, resulting in seven confirmed deaths. As a result, a large-scale clean-up operation is underway in the severely affected areas, including Campi Bisenzio near Florence.
The Curva Fiesole, the Fiorentina Ultras, had initially called for Sunday’s Serie A game against Juventus to be postponed so that the focus could be on the extensive recovery operation. Despite their request, the game proceeded as scheduled, with Juventus emerging as the victors with a 1-0 win. Nevertheless, many Ultras chose to abstain from attending the match in order to assist those in need.
Typically, the day after a game is a rest day for the squad. However, Biraghi, the team captain, was observed among the volunteers lending a hand in clearing up the area. The locality was filled with abandoned and damaged belongings from local homes that had been ravaged by the floods.
