Germany and Mexico played to a 2-2 draw in a friendly match at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Tuesday. This was Julian Nagelsmann’s second game in charge of Germany, who will be hosting Euro 2024.
In the 25th minute, Antonio Rudiger scored the first goal for Germany after heading in Leroy Sane’s corner. Mexico quickly replied with Uriel Antuna converting Hirving Lozano’s cross to level the score 12 minutes later. Shortly after halftime, Erick Sanchez gave Mexico a 2-1 lead by heading in Antuna’s cross.
However, Germany quickly equalized in the 51st minute. Niclas Fullkrug scored after Florian Wirtz’s shot was cleared off the line by Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.
Overall, it was an entertaining match, with both teams having their fair share of opportunities. Germany, fresh off a 3-1 victory against the United States last Saturday, displayed their attacking prowess once again, while Mexico showed resilience in coming back from a goal down.
This draw not only showcased the talents of both sides but also served as a valuable experience for Nagelsmann as he continues to shape the German national team for Euro 2024. Despite being a friendly, both teams played with high intensity and competitive spirit, providing an exciting spectacle for the fans in Philadelphia.
Germany will be looking to build on their recent performances as they prepare for the European Championship on home soil. Meanwhile, Mexico will take the positives from this result and use it as motivation for their upcoming matches.
