(Reuters) – Ghana’s national team has received positive news as they prepare for their Africa Cup of Nations Group B opener against Cape Verde in Abidjan on Sunday. Mohammed Kudus has resumed training with the team at their camp in Kumasi, officials have confirmed.
The 23-year-old’s participation in the Cape Verde match had been uncertain after he suffered a hamstring injury during West Ham United’s Premier League victory over Arsenal on Dec. 28. Kudus spent two weeks on the sidelines as a result.
The Ghana Football Association released a statement confirming Kudus’ return to training with the squad, stating that he “aims to recover in time” for the upcoming fixture with Cape Verde. Kudus has been in outstanding form this season since his move to England from Ajax Amsterdam in August.
Ghana coach Chris Hughton is facing additional challenges with the absence of Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey and Brighton & Hove Albion wing back Tariq Lamptey, both of whom have been ruled out of the Cup of Nations due to injuries.
Ghana’s Group B opponents also include Egypt and Mozambique.
