(Reuters) – Eileen Gleeson has officially been appointed as the head coach of Ireland women by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) following a successful Women’s Nations League B campaign. Gleeson, who took over as interim coach in September after Vera Pauw’s abrupt departure, led the team to six consecutive victories, topping Group 1 with a flawless record and securing promotion to Nations League A as the top-ranked team in the division.
Prior to her recent appointment, the 51-year-old seasoned coach had previously served as the assistant coach for Ireland from 2019 to 2021. Before taking on the role with Ireland, she guided Glasgow City to the Scottish Women’s Premier League title earlier this year.
The qualifying campaign for Ireland’s Women’s Euro 2025 is set to commence in April.
