PARIS (Reuters) – The drama of the Champions League continued as Paris St Germain managed to salvage a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in a thrilling Group F match, leaving both teams with uncertain futures in the competition.

PSG’s fate remains in their hands as they sit in second place with seven points, three behind leaders Borussia Dortmund, who are already qualified for the next round. However, their final group match against Dortmund will determine whether they will advance to the last-16, as only a win guarantees their place in the next phase.

Newcastle, on the other hand, must secure a victory against AC Milan in their final game and hope PSG do not win in order to secure the second spot. Milan also has a chance to reach the last-16 with a win in their match against Newcastle.

Manager Luis Enrique emphasized the importance of focusing on their own performance, stating that a win against Dortmund would secure their first-place finish, but even with a loss, they still have a chance to progress. He reflected on the team’s missed opportunities in their match against Newcastle, but remained hopeful for their upcoming game.

Despite the dramatic draw, Newcastle showed resilience and determination, with goalkeeper Nick Pope and 17-year-old midfielder Lewis Miley standing out during the match. Manager Eddie Howe expressed optimism for their upcoming clash against Milan, highlighting that they are still in contention for the last-16 spot.

He also acknowledged the frustration felt by the team after the controversial penalty decision, but maintained belief in their ability to continue competing in the Champions League.
