On Saturday, Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory against Brentford, propelling them to the top of the Premier League. The winning goal was delivered by Kai Havertz in the 89th minute, breaking the deadlock.
Prior to Arsenal’s match, Manchester City’s draw with Liverpool opened the opportunity for Mikel Arteta’s team to top the league with a win, a position they had not held for most of the game against Brentford.
During the game, Arsenal experienced a scare when their goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale made a crucial mistake in the first half. Additionally, a goal by Leandro Trossard was disallowed for being offside.
Nonetheless, Arsenal’s late surge paid off, placing them in first position with 30 points from 13 games, one ahead of City and two ahead of Liverpool.
Ramsdale’s return to the Premier League since September was marked with some nervous moments, including a botched throw-out that thankfully did not result in a goal for Brentford.
Both teams had their chances, with Gabriel Jesus forcing a save from Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken, and Trossard thinking he had scored before a VAR check overturned the decision due to offside.
In the second half, Brentford continued to pose a threat with Bryan Mbeumo and Neal Maupay testing the Arsenal defense, but it was ultimately Saka’s assist that led to Havertz’s game-winning header.
Overall, it was a hard-fought victory for Arsenal, with Brentford giving them a run for their money throughout the game.
