(Reuters) – According to manager Eddie Howe, Newcastle United are hoping to maintain their winning momentum in the Premier League as they head into their Champions League match against Paris St Germain on Tuesday. The team’s recent 4-1 victory over Chelsea has boosted their confidence, and they are determined to take advantage of their current form in their upcoming match in Group F.
Howe expressed his confidence in the team, stating, “The mood of the group is very good, especially after the result at the weekend. The lads did incredibly well to perform at a high level against a very good Chelsea side.” He emphasized the need for the team to play at their best and acknowledged the significance of the upcoming game in their group standings.
He also confirmed that the squad remains unchanged from the weekend, but there is uncertainty around midfielder Joe Willock’s availability, and injured midfielder Sean Longstaff has not traveled with the team.
Newcastle previously defeated PSG 4-1 in October, but PSG has since gone on to win their last six league games, leading the Ligue 1 standings. Howe acknowledged PSG’s improved form, stating, “since we played them they’ve been scoring for fun,” and highlighted the challenge of facing a team with quality in every position.
Despite being at the bottom of the group, Newcastle is only three points behind group leaders Borussia Dortmund, who are on seven points. Howe emphasized the importance of avoiding a loss in their upcoming match, calling it a “defining moment” in their Champions League campaign.
Howe concluded by expressing the team’s determination, saying, “It is imperative we don’t lose. This is a defining moment in our Champions League campaign, we are going to give it everything.”
