UDINE, Italy (Reuters) – Inter Milan advanced closer to clinching the Serie A title with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory against struggling Udinese on Monday. The decisive moment came in stoppage time when Davide Frattesi scored the winning goal.
In the 95th minute, Lautaro Martinez fired a shot that was saved by Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, but Frattesi was alert to slot home the rebound, securing three crucial points for Inter.
With this win, Inter extended their lead at the top of the table to 14 points ahead of local rivals AC Milan, amassing a total of 82 points with just seven games remaining in the season. On the other hand, Udinese finds themselves in a precarious position, sitting 15th in the standings with 28 points, only two points clear of the relegation zone.
Udinese surprised Inter just before halftime by taking the lead through a fortuitous goal. A miscommunication between Inter’s defense and goalkeeper Yann Sommer allowed Lazar Samardzic’s deflected cross to sneak into the net, giving Udinese an unexpected advantage.
However, Inter fought back in the second half, with Hakan Calhanoglu converting a penalty in the 55th minute after Okoye’s collision with Marcus Thurman. The stage was then set for Frattesi to be the hero with his late heroics.
