(Reuters) – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised Gabriel Jesus for his performance in leading the team to a 2-1 victory over Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday. Jesus, a 26-year-old Brazil international, scored a goal and provided an assist to Gabriel Martinelli. This win placed Arsenal at the top of Group B halfway through the pool stage. Jesus, who has previously played for Manchester City, joined Arsenal in July last year.
When asked if Jesus’ success in the Champions League influenced Arsenal’s decision to sign him, Arteta, who was previously an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, responded positively. He mentioned that Jesus has had significant experiences that have shaped him into the player he is today, and that he is delighted to have him in the team. Arteta believes Jesus has brought belief and energy to the team and emphasized the importance of players stepping up in key moments.
Arsenal’s next match is against Sheffield United in the Premier League on Saturday. They will then shift their focus to the League Cup, where they will face West Ham United in the fourth round on November 1.
