(Reuters) – Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane expressed his delight at the current state of his career, aiming to set even more records in Germany following his remarkable performance in Bayern’s 8-1 victory over Mainz 05 on Saturday.
As the captain of the English national team, Kane achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first player to score four hat-tricks in his debut Bundesliga season, helping Bayern close the gap on league leaders Bayer Leverkusen to seven points.
Throughout the season, the 30-year-old has netted an impressive total of 36 goals for Bayern in all competitions, matching Uwe Seeler’s record for the most goals in a debut Bundesliga campaign with his tally reaching 30.
In addition, Kane is on the cusp of surpassing Robert Lewandowski’s record for the most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season, a record set by the Polish forward with 41 goals at the conclusion of the 2020-21 campaign.
“I am thoroughly enjoying this experience and savoring every moment of playing for the club,” Kane stated to the press on Saturday, reflecting on his record-breaking achievements in Germany.
“With plenty of games remaining, I am determined to break the 30-goal record. Scoring goals is an expectation on me, and I aim to deliver consistently.”
Assessing the title race, Kane acknowledged that Bayer Leverkusen is currently favored to clinch the league title, emphasizing Bayern’s need to maintain the pressure and strive for victories in their remaining matches.
With their spot secured in the Champions League quarter-finals, Bayern sits in second place in the Bundesliga with 57 points. Their next league fixture sees them facing bottom-placed Darmstadt 98 on Saturday.
