In a Premier League match on Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur lost 4-2 to Brighton & Hove Albion, dealing a blow to their top-four ambitions. It was their heaviest defeat since Ange Postecoglou became manager, and only a late rally saved them from further embarrassment.
Spurs aimed to move above Manchester City into fourth spot with a victory. However, Brighton, despite missing key players, dominated the match and ran riot against an injury-hit Tottenham.
Early goals from Josh Hinshelwood and Joao Pedro, including a penalty, gave Brighton a 2-0 lead at halftime. Tottenham struggled to match Brighton’s intensity and found themselves in a difficult position.
Despite Richarlison having a goal disallowed, Spurs were unable to mount a successful comeback in the second half. Pervis Estupinan and Joao Pedro scored for Brighton, seemingly putting the game out of reach for Tottenham.
However, with late goals from Alejo Veliz and Ben Davies, Tottenham suddenly seemed capable of pulling off a miraculous comeback. Midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg even hit the post in stoppage time, putting further pressure on Brighton.
Ultimately, Brighton held on for the win, moving into eighth place in the table with 30 points. Tottenham, on the other hand, stay in fifth place with 36 points, just one point behind Manchester City in fourth.
