Juventus secured a 2-1 victory over Salernitana in Serie A on Sunday, with Dusan Vlahovic’s stoppage-time header sealing the win after the hosts were down to 10 men. This win allowed Juventus to stay close to leaders Inter Milan in the title race, sitting in second place in the standings with 46 points at the halfway mark of the season.
They are just two points behind Inter Milan, who won 2-1 against Verona on Saturday, and seven points above AC Milan in third place.
The game saw Salernitana midfielder Giulio Maggiore score the opening goal with an unstoppable shot before the break. However, Samuel Iling-Junior equalized for Juventus in the 65th minute, and Vlahovic secured the victory with a header in the 91st minute.
Maggiore was sent off with a second booking for a tackle on Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot in the 53rd minute, leaving Salernitana with 10 men. Despite their disadvantage, Salernitana kept up the pressure on Juventus and had a number of chances to score.
Juventus were able to hold off Salernitana’s attacks and capitalize on their own opportunities, extending their unbeaten streak in Serie A to 14 games. The win sets them up for a match against 14th-placed Sassuolo on Jan. 16.
Salernitana, currently at the bottom of the standings with 12 points from 19 games, will face champions Napoli in their next game.
