(Reuters) – Leicester City Women have terminated the contract of manager Willie Kirk due to a breach of their code of conduct, the Women’s Super League club announced on Thursday.
Reports in the British media earlier this month suggested that Kirk was being investigated for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a player.
In a statement, Leicester City Women stated, “Following a thorough internal disciplinary process and in compliance with the club’s commitment to upholding privacy rights, it was concluded that Willie had violated the team’s code of conduct to a level that rendered his position unsustainable.”
Kirk, who is 45 years old, took on the role of manager for Leicester City Women in November 2022 following a short stint as their director of football.
Assistant manager Jennifer Foster will step in to lead the team in the interim while the club seeks a new permanent manager.
Leicester City Women, currently in ninth place in the WSL standings, are scheduled to face Aston Villa in their next match on Saturday.
