In Leverkusen, Germany, Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, with Victor Boniface scoring the equalizer in the 79th minute. This draw marked the end of Leverkusen’s eight-game winning streak in the league.
Despite the draw, Leverkusen remains at the top of the Bundesliga standings with 35 points. Second-placed Bayern Munich, with 32 points, did not play this weekend due to the postponement of their match against Union Berlin because of heavy snowfall in Munich.
Meanwhile, Dortmund, who currently sits in fifth place with 10 points behind the top spot, took an early lead in the fifth minute with Julian Ryerson’s third goal of the season, as part of an impressive passing move by the Norwegian.
Notably, this was the first time this season that Leverkusen failed to score in the first half, a significant contrast to their previous matches where they scored at least twice for a league-record.
Despite dominating the second half and keeping Dortmund in their own half, Leverkusen struggled to find the back of the net until the 79th minute when Patrik Schick was brought on. The Czech forward made an instant impact, assisting Nigeria international Boniface for the crucial equalizer.
