(Reuters) – Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has urged fans and the media to refrain from sensationalizing the club’s young players, emphasizing the importance of giving them the necessary time to develop. The Premier League club is currently grappling with a lengthy injury list, leading Klopp to field a youthful team in their recent 3-0 victory over Southampton in the Championship.
During the match, 18-year-olds Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas notched their first goals for the senior team, prompting comparisons to Luke Littler, the youngest player to reach the final of the World Darts Championship last month. Klopp cautioned against excessive scrutiny of the teenagers, urging for patience and support as they navigate their early careers.
“It’s a little bit like with the new darts sensation,” Klopp remarked to reporters. “It’s fine for tonight, but from tomorrow on leave the boys in the corner please and don’t ask ‘where are they now, where are they now, where are they now’. They have a lot to improve, a lot to learn.”
The manager highlighted the bright future ahead for Liverpool, emphasizing the potential of their promising young talents. Klopp stressed the importance of nurturing and developing these players rather than seeking numerous signings in the upcoming transfer window, urging for faith in the existing squad.
“We said a couple of times that the future doesn’t look that bad. Don’t forget it when the transfer window opens that there are a couple of pretty promising players already here. Don’t close the door on them with 12 signings,” Klopp emphasized.
