BERLIN (Reuters) – Donyell Malen secured a 3-0 win for Borussia Dortmund against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Friday, further solidifying their hold on fourth place in the league.
The Dutch striker narrowly missed a bicycle kick before finding the back of the net in the 16th minute, threading a shot past three Freiburg defenders.
He then perfectly timed his run to receive a pass from Niclas Fuellkrug and scored from a difficult angle just before halftime, marking his ninth league goal. Fuellkrug, a German international, headed in their third goal in the 87th minute.
Dortmund, set to face PSV Endhoven later in February for their Champions League last 16 first leg, currently hold the fourth spot in the standings with 40 points, equal to third-placed VfB Stuttgart. RB Leipzig, in fifth place with 36 points, will travel to Augsburg on Saturday.
The game was marred by two interruptions as fans protested a planned investor deal with the league by throwing chocolate coins and tennis balls onto the pitch.
