Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed his desire for his team to secure all three points in their upcoming game, despite securing a 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Saturday. He also acknowledged the significance of the draw given Manchester City’s strong home form.
A product of Liverpool’s academy, the 25-year-old Alexander-Arnold ended City’s streak of 23 wins at the Etihad Stadium with his 80th-minute equalizer. This included a 4-1 loss to City in April.
Following a fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season, Liverpool is currently two points behind the top spot in the ongoing campaign.
When asked about the trajectory of Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold emphasized the importance of securing a point against the champions and it being a positive result for the team. He also mentioned the need for the team to believe in their ability to achieve such results.
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp also noted the progress his team has made against Pep Guardiola’s side, but he acknowledged that the team is still in a transition period.
He reflected on the significant improvement compared to their previous game against City and emphasized that the team had a chance to compete. He also mentioned that his team is not focused on comparing themselves to City, but rather on their own progress and growth.
Liverpool’s upcoming games include a Europa League match against Austrian club LASK at Anfield and a Premier League match against 15th-placed Fulham.
