(Reuters) – According to reports, Manchester City supporters were attacked ahead of Wednesday’s 3-2 Champions League win at Red Star Belgrade, prompting the club to work with police to ensure fan safety. Some fans sustained minor injuries in the attack, which took place in a bar.
In response to the incident, the club expressed concern and stated that they were collaborating with local authorities to provide additional safety guidance and support for fans. Additionally, Manchester City had arranged for buses to safely transport their supporters to the stadium for the match.
Following the game, fans were held back by police as a precautionary measure before departing the venue.
“Manchester City FC is concerned by the news of an attack on our travelling fans last night in Belgrade,” the club told British media on Wednesday. The team also assured fans that they were working closely with local law enforcement to ensure their safety.
The incident in Belgrade has raised awareness about the importance of fan safety and security, with Manchester City taking proactive steps to address the issue.
