Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been excluded from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup match against Sevilla. De Bruyne suffered yet another hamstring injury during the team’s first league game of the season.
The incident occurred in the 36th minute of City’s 3-0 victory over Burnley on Friday. The Belgium international had previously sustained a similar injury during the Champions League final in June.
City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that it was a recurrence of the previous injury. He stated, “It’s the hamstring again, same position. I don’t know how long he will be out, it depends on the magnitude of the injury but it will be a few weeks.”
Despite De Bruyne’s absence, Guardiola has named a 22-man squad for the UEFA Super Cup match scheduled to take place in Athens on Wednesday. This annual competition involves the previous season’s Champions League and Europa League winners.
Kevin De Bruyne’s absence will undoubtedly be a blow for Manchester City as they strive for success in both domestic and European competitions. The midfielder’s creativity and impact on the team’s attacking play will be sorely missed during his time on the sidelines.
De Bruyne’s injury is a setback for the player himself as well. After a strong performance in the previous season, culminating in a Champions League triumph, he would have been eager to continue contributing to the team’s success.
Manchester City will now have to rely on their squad depth and the abilities of other players to fill the void left by De Bruyne’s absence. Guardiola will need to implement tactical adjustments to ensure the team maintains its competitive edge.
The severity and recovery time for De Bruyne’s injury have yet to be determined. However, it is clear that he will be out of action for a significant period.
