(Reuters) – Northern Ireland’s Jonny Evans will be out of action for the “next few weeks” because of a thigh strain, Manchester United announced on Friday.
Evans sustained the injury during the first half of United’s 4-3 loss to FC Copenhagen in the Champions League. His absence adds to a growing list of injuries for United, who are still without defenders Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and midfielder Casemiro.
The 35-year-old will miss Northern Ireland’s final Euro 2024 qualifiers against Finland and Denmark. Northern Ireland, currently sitting in fifth place in Group H with six points, will play in Finland next Friday before hosting Denmark on Nov. 20.
Evans returned to United on a one-year contract in September, eight years after leaving Old Trafford. He has started five league games so far. United are currently in eighth place in the top-flight, having collected 18 points in 11 matches, and will host newly-promoted Luton Town on Saturday.
