In Decines-Charpieu, France, Kylian Mbappe revealed his belief that he will have a decision on which club he will join for the next season before the start of the European Championship in June. The forward, who is expected to depart from Paris St Germain in the summer, expressed his focus on representing his national team in the Euros and potentially the Olympics in Paris, should he be given the chance to be selected.
The 25-year-old stated, “I have still not announced anything on my future as I’ve nothing to announce… I’ve always said that when I have something to announce, I’ll do it as a man.” He added, “I think my future will be resolved before the Euros, yes.”
Mbappe also shared his dream of playing in the Olympics but acknowledged that the decision is not solely up to him. He mentioned, “I always wanted to play at the Olympics and my desire has not changed… but if I’m not allowed to, then I will do as I’m told.”
It is important to note that the Olympics men’s soccer tournament is limited to Under-23 sides, with a maximum of three players above that age threshold permitted in each squad. France’s head coach Didier Deschamps emphasized the significance of facing Germany, stating that it is always an exciting encounter, even in a friendly setting.
Deschamps remarked, “It’s not a competitive game but it’s still a great one. All matches are important. You’re going to judge. Me and the staff will use them to get some more answers before the final list. There are always lessons to be learned.”
Following the friendly against Germany, France is scheduled to play another friendly against Chile on Tuesday before kicking off their Euros group stage campaign against Austria on June 17. The Paris Olympics are set to commence in July.
