BERGAMO, Italy (Reuters) – Napoli clinched a 2-1 victory on the road against Atalanta on Saturday, thanks to goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Eljif Elmas in each of the halves, propelling them to provisional third place in Serie A.
Just one minute before halftime, Kvaratskhelia managed to evade his marker and headed the ball into the net from inside the box, breaking the deadlock and giving Napoli the lead.
Eight minutes into the second half, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman equalised with a powerful header into the bottom left corner, meeting a cross from the right.
Napoli’s key striker Victor Osimhen made a comeback after an injury around the hour mark when he replaced Giacomo Raspadori.
In the 79th minute, Napoli secured the win when Osimhen provided a pass across the box, giving Elmas the time and space to slot the ball in from a short distance.
Napoli’s victory propelled them to third place in the standings with 24 points from 13 games. They are now seven points behind leaders Inter Milan and one point ahead of fourth-placed AC Milan, who are set to host Fiorentina later on Saturday.
