(Reuters) – Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton was the victim of a home invasion while his team was playing against Manchester City at St James’ Park on Saturday evening. The Brazilian player, who was unable to play due to injury, was at the stadium for the game.
During the game, Joelinton received an alert that intruders had entered his house, prompting police to be dispatched to the scene, according to the Daily Mail. By the time the authorities arrived, the burglars had already fled.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a break-in at the home of Manchester City player Jack Grealish. Grealish’s family and his girlfriend Sasha Attwood were present in the home when it was targeted by burglars while City was playing Everton on Dec. 27. The stolen items were reported to have a value exceeding 1 million pounds ($1.27 million) in jewelry and watches.
