(Reuters) – Nice took the top spot in the Ligue 1 standings after securing a 1-0 victory against Clermont Foot on Friday. The winning goal was scored by Hicham Boudaoui in the second half.
Thanks to this result, Nice now sits in first place with 22 points, two points ahead of AS Monaco. AS Monaco will be playing against Lille on Sunday. On the other hand, Clermont is struggling and currently occupies the second-bottom position with only five points.
Boudaoui found the back of the net in the 74th minute after making an unmarked run into the penalty area and converting a well-placed cross into a goal.
Nice had an opportunity to take the lead right before halftime when Boudaoui was fouled by Alidu Seidu in the penalty area. However, Gaetan Labord missed the penalty, resulting in a scoreless first half.
Under the guidance of Francesco Farioli, Nice has had a remarkable start to the season. They have remained undefeated and achieved seven clean sheets, which is the best among all the top five European leagues.
