(Reuters) – Following the violence outside Aston Villa’s stadium before their Europa Conference League game against Legia Warsaw on Thursday, the police have apprehended 46 individuals. Four officers sustained injuries in the clashes. The commotion occurred prior to kickoff at Villa Park, and as a result, the police prohibited the entry of travelling fans, resulting in the away stand remaining empty. The match concluded with Villa emerging victorious with a score of 2-1.
“We’ve now got 46 people in custody following last night’s violence involving away fans outside Villa Park,” West Midlands Police said in a statement.
“Officers faced 90 minutes of sustained violence, and four were injured,” the statement continued.
The police also expressed gratitude towards Aston Villa fans for their support during the incident.
Legia Warsaw alleged that Aston Villa had provided the Polish club with a lower number of tickets than what they were entitled to as per UEFA regulations.
