In a Ligue 1 match on Friday, Paris St Germain and AS Monaco played to a 0-0 draw at Stade Louis II. This result extended PSG’s unbeaten league run to 19 games, solidifying their position as league leaders.
With this draw, PSG now have 55 points, maintaining a 12-point lead over second-placed Brest. Monaco, on the other hand, are still searching for their first home win of the year and currently sit in third place with 42 points.
Despite PSG dominating possession, it was Monaco who came closest to scoring in the first half. PSG’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made crucial saves to keep the hosts off the scoresheet.
PSG appeared more threatening in the second half, even after star forward Kylian Mbappe was substituted at halftime. However, players like Bradley Barcola and Vitinha were unable to find a way past Monaco’s keeper Radoslaw Majecki.
“We had our chances, but we improved in the second half by moving the ball better. The draw seems fair,” stated PSG’s coach Luis Enrique in an interview with Prime Video.
Speaking about Mbappe’s substitution, Enrique mentioned, “It’s important for us to adapt to playing without Kylian. I have to make decisions that are best for the team.” Mbappe is expected to depart the club in the upcoming transfer window.
PSG’s next fixture is an important one, as they face Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. They currently hold a 2-0 lead from the first leg and will be looking to secure their spot in the next round.
Reflecting on the match, goalkeeper Donnarumma noted, “I played a solid game. It’s always tough to play here, and we were aiming for a win, but Monaco is a strong team.” He praised his team’s attitude and expressed readiness for the upcoming Champions League clash.
