(Reuters) – Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed his understanding for midfielder Luka Modric, who may be feeling frustrated after spending much of the season on the bench. Ancelotti described Modric’s contract situation as “complicated” following the veteran’s impressive performance in a recent LaLiga match.
Modric, who is set to become a free agent this summer, showcased his quality by scoring a stunning goal from outside the box to secure a 1-0 victory over Sevilla. Despite his impact in the game, Modric has only started 11 out of the 21 league matches he has played this season.
Ancelotti praised Modric for his work ethic and professionalism, highlighting the challenge he faces in leaving such a talented player on the bench. The manager emphasized that Modric’s contribution goes beyond his goal-scoring ability, setting a positive example for the rest of the squad.
Regarding the midfielder’s contract negotiations, Ancelotti acknowledged the complexities involved. Drawing from his own experience as a former player, the manager indicated that he would empathize with Modric if he felt discontent about his playing time.
Despite perceptions of Modric being in the twilight of his career, Ancelotti lauded his physical condition and desire to continue performing at the highest level. The midfielder’s form and fitness belie his age, demonstrating his ongoing impact for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid, currently topping the LaLiga standings, are gearing up to face Valencia in their upcoming league fixture. Ancelotti and his team will look to maintain their position at the summit of the table with another positive result on Saturday.
