In Braga, Portugal, Sporting Braga, despite being down a player, managed to come from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at home against Union Berlin in the Champions League Group C on Wednesday. This draw has kept their hopes alive of reaching the last 16 of the competition.
Robin Gosens, the midfielder for Union, gave them the lead just three minutes before the halftime when he managed to send a low shot past the Braga goalkeeper, Matheus. The home team responded with Alvaro Djalo scoring after the break with an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
Unfortunately for Braga, they were left with just 10 men after Union forward Kevin Behrens was fouled by Sikou Niakate. Initially, Niakate was shown a yellow card, but this was later upgraded to a red following a VAR review.
Currently, Braga sits in third place in the standings with four points. They still have a chance to finish in the top two if they manage to beat second-placed Napoli by more than one goal in the final game next month. Napoli, the Italian champions, won 2-1 in Portugal.
Real Madrid, who have already secured a spot in the last-16, top the group with 15 points after a 4-2 win over Napoli. Meanwhile, Union Berlin are at the bottom of the group with only two points.
