In Birmingham, England, Tottenham Hotspur delivered a commanding 4-0 victory over 10-man Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday. This win enabled them to narrow the gap with their Birmingham rivals to just two points in the race for Champions League qualification next season.
Starting the match five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, Spurs swiftly took control in the second half. James Maddison opened the scoring in the 50th minute with a volley, followed by Brennan Johnson finding the back of the net three minutes later after Villa made a costly mistake.
Aston Villa’s hopes of a comeback were dealt a severe blow when John McGinn received a straight red card in the 65th minute for a challenge on Spurs’ Destiny Udogie. This left them with only 10 players on the field, making their task even more challenging.
Seizing the opportunity, Tottenham’s captain Son Heung-min and substitute Timo Werner both found the back of the net in stoppage time, securing a convincing 4-0 victory. This result saw Spurs move to 53 points, just two points behind Villa with a game in hand.
