On Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-1 Premier League defeat at home against Aston Villa, marking their third consecutive loss. The match was full of chances and highly engaging.

Aston Villa, who hadn’t won on the road in over two months, climbed above Tottenham to secure the fourth spot in the table. However, this outcome didn’t seem likely at the beginning of the game.

In the 22nd minute, Giovani Lo Celso’s deflected shot gave the hosts a well-deserved lead, and they could have been comfortably ahead by the time Pau Torres equalized with a powerful header in stoppage time before halftime.

Both teams continued to create opportunities after the break, but it was Aston Villa who took the lead with a fantastic goal from Ollie Watkins just past the hour mark, assisted by Youri Tielemans.

Aston Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made two impressive saves, while Ben Davies missed a significant chance by heading the ball over the bar. Pedro Porro hit the post, adding to the misfortune of the hosts, who also suffered another setback when Rodrigo Bentancur limped off the field in the first half.

Under the management of Unai Emery, Aston Villa have accumulated 28 points from 13 games, just behind Liverpool on goal difference. Meanwhile, Tottenham has slipped to fifth place with 26 points.
