(Reuters) – Valencia’s match against Granada in the league, scheduled for Saturday, has been pushed back due to a tragic fire in the eastern coastal city, as confirmed by LaLiga on Friday.
The game was set to take place at Granada’s Los Carmenes stadium, but Valencia requested the match be postponed after a deadly fire engulfed a 14-storey tower block in the city, prompting a three-day period of mourning.
“In alignment with the three days of mourning declared in the Valencian region, Valencia CF will fly flags at half-mast at our facilities. We also offer our assistance to institutions and emergency services for any needs they may have,” Valencia stated in a release.
The city of Valencia has also decided to delay the start of the annual month-long “Fallas” festival, known for its large cardboard statue burnings and fireworks display.
Valencia currently holds the eighth spot in the league with 36 points.
