(Reuters) – Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara, a France midfielder, sustained a “significant knee ligament injury” during the team’s Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday, as confirmed by the club.
Following a scan on Monday, the 24-year-old’s condition will be assessed further after consulting with a knee specialist.
While the Midlands club did not provide additional details, reports from the media suggested that Kamara is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the season and would also miss the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
Kamara was replaced in the 65th minute of the 2-1 defeat to United at Villa Park.
Currently, Aston Villa holds the fifth spot in the Premier League table, trailing behind Tottenham Hotspur by a single point.
